What is the Pigdon Street International Film Festival?
A community film festival held each year in the inner-northern of Melbourne, Australia. The festival was named after the location of its very first edition; Pigdon Street.
When is it?
This year’s festival will be held on March 22-24. The final deadline date for film submission is October 31 at 12:00am (Australian Eastern Standard Time). Films will be notified of the result of their submissions and subsequent nominations by November 13th.
Who can enter?
Anyone. The Pigdon Street International Film Festival (PSIFF) has no entry restrictions whatsoever. Furthermore, PSIFF encourages both amateur and professional filmmakers from all walks of life to submit their work including but not limited to: members of the LGBTQI+ community, those from gender diverse backgrounds, First Nations peoples, people living with disabilities, international, regional and local filmmakers and artists from minority and disadvantaged backgrounds.
How much does it cost to enter?
Submission of films to the Pigdon Street International Film Festival is free and will always be free. The PSIFF team strongly believes the opportunity to showcase your art should not be restricted to only the members of the community with the financial means to do so. The festival is our way of celebrating this ethos and freedom of expression.
PSIFF is a not-for-profit organisation, with the small entrance fee for some screenings only used to cover the costs of hiring and running in larger venues.
What kind of films play at the festival?
The Pigdon Street International Film Festival showcases English language or English-subtitled films. Films must be submitted for contention in one of five categories:
Best Comedy
Best Drama
Best Documentary
Best Experimental
Best Music Video
Additionally, films must have been made within the past 3 years (produced on or after January 1st, 2021).
What happens if my submission is selected?
Submitted films will be collected by the PSIFF team and given to an external judging panel to determine the Official Selection for the 2024 Festival. Selected films will be notified by email/telephone. Of these selected films, winners will be chosen for each of the five categories, as well as an overall winner who receives the festival’s top prize, The Golden Pig.
Official Selection films will be displayed on the PSIFF website, and may be viewed online with the artist’s discretion. Official Selection films that were not chosen for awards will be showcased on March 22. Award winners and the overall winner will be showcased on March 24.
