Weekend Cowboy

Somebody dug up Jakob’s father and to get the body back, he has to do something he thought he’d never do again. Dance.

Director’s statement - Mads Erichsen

I believe that that entertainment, humor and dancing can change things, and bring hope to hopelessness.

I come from a torn family, and in the midst of that, it’s every man for himself. A few years ago when me and my brother got together, I figured that I left him behind when we were kids. It broke my heart because I couldn’t see it back then, I just needed to get away from my parents as fast as I could. We got through it, but for years he hated me for it.

All of this sounds hard, and it is, but I believe in the power of entertainment, humor and dancing.

I want to entertain and get people into the cinema with fun and games, but I want to give them something to take home, when the joy has left them. We laugh at Mike in the beginning, but later we figure out that under his cool cowboy suit, he’s still that little kid who wanted to make his father happy. In fact, his father’s lifestyle is all he has, and we feel sorry for him, and embarrassed that we laughed at him 10 minutes earlier.

We don’t always know what the consequences of our actions are, sometimes not for years, but I want to believe that we can cry and heal. Even though we are grown men, who were raised by Rambo and Clint Eastwood and told not to dance and cry like little girls… my brother and I did.

And lastly, if we all danced instead of fighting each other, the world would be in much better shape. I’ll vote for that any day.
